BILLY  DANIEL  BURKETT



COWARTS…Billy Daniel Burkett, a resident of Cowarts, died early Thursday morning, December 27, 2012, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 55.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 29, 2012, in the Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church, in Grimes, with Reverend Neal Miller and Dr. Max T. McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery in Dothan. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the church sanctuary.


            Mr. Burkett was a native of Hazlehurst, Georgia, and moved to Malvern as a teenager. He was a 1975 graduate of Slocomb High School. Mr. Burkett lived in Kinsey before moving to Cowarts in 2005. He attended the Mt. Zion Assembly of God Church. Mr. Burkett was retired, due to disability, from Flint Equipment Company in Dothan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dan Webster Burkett and Jeanette Hughes Burkett, two brothers, Terry Donald Burkett, and Randy Webster Burkett.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Tonya Vann Burkett, Cowarts; two daughters, Torri Elliott, and Devin Burkett, both of Cowarts; two sons, Danny Burkett (Morgan Peacock), Kinsey, and Jerad Burkett (Me’Osha), Norfolk, VA; two sisters, Debbie Mims and Peggie Martin, both of Kinsey; a brother, Jimmy Burkett (Judy), Woodbury, GA; five grandchildren, Haley Elliott (Raeleigh Peacock), Chase Elliott, Connor Elliott,  Ethan Burkett, and Caeden Burkett; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles H. and Louise Vann, Dothan; sister-in-law, Carla Nettles (Jim), Little Rock, AR; and several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Timothy Carter, Tim Duke, Brett Muccio, Kenny Nails, Shane Nails, Keith Mims, and Mickey Farmer.
