ABBEVILLE…Billy Edgar Mims, a resident of Abbeville, died Tuesday morning, December 18, 2012, at his home. He was 84.


            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. (CST) Friday, December 21, 2012, in the Holman-Abbeville Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow at 2:00 P.M. (EST) or 1:00 P.M. (CST), Friday, in the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Fort Mitchell, AL. The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 10:00 A.M. (CST) at the mortuary in Abbeville.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Henry County Veterans' Memorial Park, Inc., c/o Elaine Kennedy, P.O. Box 115, Shorterville, AL 36373.        


            Mr. Mims was born and reared in Henry County, near Abbeville, son of the late Euston Rodalphus Mims and Bessie Mae Bodiford Mims. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, Mr. Mims retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Master Sergeant after twenty years of service. After his retirement from the military, Mr. Mims attended Sparks Technical College in Eufaula, where he received an Associate’s Degree in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. He was self-employed as a plumber, electrician, and technician in air conditioning and heating. Mr. Mims formerly owned and operated C&C Laundry in Abbeville. He was a member of Union Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. Mims was a lifelong member of The American Legion, Air Force Sergeant’s Association, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.


Mr. Mims was preceded in death by a former wife, Betty Clenney Mims; a daughter, Mary Frances Mims; a step-daughter, Charlotte Ann Ruminer; four sisters, Veta Mae Mynatt, Elba Rose Ethridge, Bessie Iris Armstrong, and Dot Mims Ethridge; and a brother, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mims.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Caroline Gachet Mims, Abbeville; a daughter, Billie Renee’ Mims Accurso and husband, Dr. Joseph Matthew Accurso, Ponte Vedra, FL; a step-daughter, Lynn Terry and husband Wayne, Unadilla, NY; two brothers, Tom Wesley Mims, Sr. and wife, Ruby Lee Hancock Mims, Abbeville, and Charles Euston Mims, Graceville, FL; three grandchildren, Matthew Accurso, Elizabeth Accurso, and Dominic Accurso; four step-grandchildren, Rick Grantham, Marcy Gainey, Lindy Seamon, and Kevin Stubbs; and nine step-great-grandchildren.
