Billy J. Davis, age 76, of Alma, Georgia passed away Monday, December 8th at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Coffee County, Alabama but had lived in Alma for more than 50 years. Billy was son of the late James Huey Davis and Annie Allen Davis and was preceded in death by two brothers, Len & Ed Davis. He owned and operated Davis Jewelry Store, worked for Flash Foods for 8 years and was manager of BC Moores; was Member of the Lions Club for many years, Alma First Baptist Church and the Men’s Fellowship Class and served as a Deacon. He was an active Community Leader for many years, avid Alabama Crimson Tide Fan and was Alma-Bacon County Citizen of the year in 1969. He served and was honorable discharged from the US Army 82nd  Airborn Divison.


Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sara Tice Davis, two sons, Greg Davis and Phillip Davis (Kim) of Alma, one brother, Melvin Davis (Syble) of Enterprise, AL., sister, Nellie Peak of Geneva, AL. one granddaughter, Ashley White and one great-grand son, John Anthony White; also a special sister-in-law, Joann Tice and brother-in-law, Fred Tice of Enterprise, AL. and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.


Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Dec. 10th at 11:00 AM at the Alma First Baptist Church with Rev. Lance Wade officiating and a eulogy given by Freddy Jackson. The family will be receiving friends at First Baptist Church Wednesday morning at 9:00 AM until funeral time.


There will also be a visitation at Sorrells Funeral Home in Enterprise, Alabama Thursday at 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM. A private graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM at Meadowlawn Cemetery in Enterprise, Alabama with Rev. Phillip Cooley officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alma First Baptist Church Building Fund 201 N. Church St. Alma, GA. 31510.


Active pallbearers will be; Kenny Wade, James Henry Carter, James Ernest McLean, Buster Meeks, Jerry D. Taylor and Danny Hyers. Honorary pallbearers will be; Marvin Deen, Freddy Jackson, Jimmy McCall, Roy Lee, Big Brothers, Sunday School Class, Supper Club.
