Blanche Hope Byrd Hodges, a resident of Greenwood Place, Geneva, and formerly of Dothan, died Wednesday, April 3, 2013. She was 88.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, Warren Byrd, officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Alacare Hospice, 3379 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36305.


Mrs. Hodges was born September 23, 1924 to James P. and Lula Byrd in Hartford and lived her early life in Hartford and Geneva. She married George Lloyd Hodges in 1946 and they lived in Pensacola and Gulf Breeze, FL. They then moved to Dothan in 1966 where she lived the remainder of her life.


She enjoyed working in her yard and feeding and watching her birds. She volunteered with the Red Cross as a Gray Lady with Southeast Alabama Medical Center. Mrs. Hodges loved to fish and loved her dogs. She was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church in Dothan.


Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her husband, George L. Hodges; two brothers, Cliff Byrd and Jack Byrd; and three sisters, Sally Lanton, Maudrene Backus, and Dorothy Baker.


Survivors include many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.


Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.
