A visitation service will be held Sunday September 15, 2013 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm at Sunset Funeral Home.

Bobby was the loving son of Woodrow and Francis Smith Devane of Opp, Alabama. He was born on August 31, 1944 and spent his youth in Opp. He graduated from Opp High School in 1962, and continued his education first at Troy State University where he completed a Bachelor’s degree in Math, then at Auburn University where he completed a Master’s degree in Education, and finally at Troy State in Dothan where he completed an Education Specialist degree. He spent several years teaching and coaching at various schools in the Wiregrass before ending up at Dothan High School in 1973. During his 20 year tenure with the Dothan City School system, he served in various positions ranging from Assistant Principal at both Dothan and Northview High Schools, Principal at Highlands Elementary School, and Head Coach/Athletic Director at Dothan High School. He touched countless lives as an administrator and coach.

Bobby enjoyed playing golf and watching sports with his children and friends. Always quick with a story or joke, he never met a stranger and loved interacting with people. He was a fixture at Auburn tailgating and met many of his closest friends through this activity.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 33 years Laura Gibson Devane, family Bo, Amy, Aiden, and his mother Martina Devane; Tasha and John Crowe; Heath, April, Josh, and Abbie Zorn; Josh and Jena Devane; brother Ralph Devane and his children Lisa, Greg, Chris, and Michael.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Auburn Raptor Center: The Auburn University Foundation c/o The Southeastern Raptor Center 317 South College Street Auburn, AL 36849.
