Brother Eugene Holmes was born on May 27, 1953 to Eli Holmes, Jr. and Dorothy Medlock Holmes at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.
Brother Holmes attended John’s Chapel AME Church in Enterprise, Alabama during his early years and later joined the St. Mary Baptist Church in Enterprise.
Following his father’s footsteps, he joined the United States Armin in 1972, completing 20 years of distinguished service upon his retirement in October 1992. His military career included one tour in Viet Nam and service in Europe during the Gulf War era. He completed several peacetime overseas tours, including Germany.
Brother Holmes was a graduate of Enterprise High School in Enterprise, Alabama. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Jeanette Purcell in Augsburg, Germany on August 9, 1976.
Surrounded by his bride of 39 years and other family members, Brother Holmes departed this life for a peaceful rest from his labor on June 21, 2015 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his father, The Reverend Eli Holmes, Jr. and his youngest brother Dan Holmes.
Cherishing the sweet memories are his devoted wife, Jeanette Holmes of Level Plains, Alabama; his mother Dorothy M. Holmes of Enterprise, three brothers: George, Cincinnati, OH, Eli III, Enterprise and Alexander (Norma) El Paso, TX; three sisters: Carolyn, Enterprise, Gwen Griffin, Georgia and Barbara, Enterprise and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
