“Daddy Bruce” was born and raised in Pegram, Tennessee. He relocated to Dothan in the early 70’s with his loving wife Juanita and her children, to assist in the building of the Farley Plant. While being a heavy equipment operator by trade, he always had a love for horses and also worked as a farrier in the Tri-State area for over 25 years. He was a common site in the 70’s and 80’s at the Dothan Boots and Saddle Club and the Southeast AL Quarter Horse Association shows. His tall stature, big heart and gentle laugh endeared him to the youngsters on the show circuit where they called him “Daddy Bruce.” He was also proud of his “wrestling days” as he called them, when he took to the ring at the Farm Center and Panhandle venues with many of the wrestling greats. He had been retired from the Houston County Farm Center for 3 years.

Daddy Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth Walkup and Mildred Bruce Walkup, wife of 40 years Juanita and step-daughter Pamela Philpot.

Survivors include a sister Mary Ann Walkup Prince (Walter), brother Sam Walkup (Mary), daughter Angie Walkup, steps he loved as his own, Mary Sue Bettencourt, Tim Philpot, Mark Philpot, Donetta Stinson (Johnny), Sondra Free (Terry) and too many grands and great-grands to list.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Quattlebaum, Billy Wells, Mickey Sego and Chuck Barthlemess.
