DOTHAN…Bruce Wendell Blankenship, a resident of Dothan, died Monday morning, April 20, 2015, at his home. He was 65.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 23, 2015, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Lynn Nesbitt and Mr. Dwight Deal officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Dothan, 1380 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36301.


            Mr. Blankenship was born and reared in Eastman, Georgia, son of the late Lester Oris Blankenship and Vassie Faircloth Blankenship. He was a graduate of the Dodge County High School in Eastman. Mr. Blankenship served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He attended the Baptist College of Florida in Graceville and was a licensed Baptist minister. Mr. Blankenship retired from Walmart as a meat cutter. In earlier years, he was employed by Fleming Foods in Piggly Wiggly stores.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dothan, Sons of the American Revolution and Sons of Confederate Veterans.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Dinah Bass Blankenship, a daughter, Amanda Blankenship Slocumb, both of Dothan; a grandson, Charles Edward (CJ) Slocumb, Jr.; a sister, Debra Harris (Dexter), Byron, GA; a brother, Jerry Blankenship (Mary Ellen), Mobile, AL.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Larry Faircloth, Donald Kenneth Gay, II, Billy Faircloth, Rex Blankenship, David Giddens and Rex Giddens.
