Bufford Harris

 

Bufford Ray Harris, 88, a resident of Ashford passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013 at his residence.

 

Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel on West Main Street with Hospice Chaplain Phillip Durr officiating and Byrd Funeral  Home directing. The family will receive friends following the memorial service on Wednesday.

 

Mr. Harris was born October 25, 1924 in Troy, Alabama to Leavie and Maggie Reeves Harris and spent his childhood on the farm.  At the age of 16, he entered the U.S.  Army where he served in Korea and Vietnam retiring as First Sergeant after 25 years of service.  After his military retirement, he was engaged in construction and worked on the addition to General Hospital, now SAMC.

 

Mr. Harris was an avid fox hunter and loved the outdoors and gardening. He was a member of the American Kennel Club and the American Foxhunters Organization. Mr. Harris was of the Baptist faith.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Colene Harris, and several brothers and sisters.

 

Survivors include his wife, Annie Janie Harris of Ashford; three children, Norma Harris (Bobby) and children, Tammy Davis (Brian) and their child, Cody, Jarrod “Bubba” Blanchard,  Dennis Joel Harris (Lucille) and  children, Michelle L. Miller, (Mike) and children, Katelyn and Troy, Amy M. Meredith (Jason), Wendy L. McLean (Danny) and children, Megan and Timothy, Killon Ray Harris (Willie) and  children, Brad and Michael; stepsons, Patrick Jones (June) and children, Emily and Alicia, Robert Jones (Joy) and children, Brennan and her child, Whit,  Sean, Justin, Timothy, Jeremy, Whitney and her child, Ava.
