Carolyn Cawthron Johnson of Dothan died Tuesday, November 17 at Wesley Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 23 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. The Reverend John D. Reese, III will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be given to First Baptist Church of Dothan or First Baptist Church, McGregor, Texas.


Carolyn was born on November 16, 1932 in Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. She grew up in McGregor, Texas and graduated from McGregor High School in 1951. She passed the Civil Service examination in 1952 and went to work at the 12th Air force Command Center in Waco, Texas and held many Civil Service positions through the years until her retirement from Ft. Rucker. Carolyn moved to Dothan in 1973 and was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan.


Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Richard and Margaret McDonald Cawthron of McGregor, Texas, and her daughter, Jennifer Johnson Bass of Gordon, Alabama.


Survivors include her son, Gary M. Johnson and his wife, grandchildren, Jordan and Sean, all of Birmingham, Alabama; her brother, John R. Cawthron, Sr. and his wife, Virginia and their children and grandchildren of Waco, Texas; her cousins of Waco, Texas; her special friends, Winifred R. Ramsey of Midland City, Alabama and Angela R. Orndorff of Fayetteville, Georgia; and her loving caregivers at Wesley Manor Nursing Home.


Carolyn made things precious by her touch, her selfless love lives on in each of us. The petals of her life fell one by one, each a gift of her heart. Yet, her radiance blooms once again, in Fields of Glory with no end.
