Carolyn S. Mathews, a resident of Dothan, passed away lovingly surrounded by her family on Saturday, January 28, 2017 in a local hospital. She was 80.


The family will receive friends at Sunset Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 10-12 pm. Private graveside services will be held in Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to DaVita Dothan at Home, 216 Graceland Drive, Dothan, AL, 36305.


Mrs. Mathews was born on November 10, 1936 in Pike County, AL and lived the early years of her life there. She moved to Dothan in 1958 and was employed with Dothan City Schools for over 20 years until her retirement in 2000. Mrs. Mathews was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Ladies of the Elk's where she served twice as president.


Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her son Michael Mathews.


Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Henry Ben Mathews; her son, Henry Ben Mathews II and his wife Rebecca; her 2 grandchildren, William S. Mathews and Lauren E. Mathews.
