 Carolyn Ward Driggers


 Carolyn Ward Driggers, 88, a resident of Dothan, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at her residence.


Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at Byrd Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Austin Phillips and Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 Monday prior to service time.


Flowers are acceptable or memorials may be made to the Recreation Department of Covenant United Methodist Church.


Miss Driggers was born August 26, 1927 near Malvern. She finished high school in Slocomb as an excelling student and was involved in all sports. She later completed a general business course on scholarship and several other college courses by invitation. She was employed in Montgomery with Rosemont Gardens as Cashier, Alabama Farm Bureau as Clerk and Alabama Inspection and Rating Bureau as Receptionist before accepting a position with General Motors in their Insurance Division. Her position took her to several cities to open branch offices before her final location in Birmingham, AL. From there she retired from General Motors in 1980 at age 53 as Executive Secretary. She and her sister Sibyl, who was widowed, returned home to Dothan to join Brother Fred and his family. Miss Driggers was an avid Bridge player but her special interest has always been her family members. She and Sibyl remained together from 1980 until 2012 when her sister went to be with her Lord.


Miss Driggers was predeceased by her father and mother, Charles A. and Maude Ward Driggars; sister, Sibyl Driggars Rich and husband, Everett and daughter, Bonnie; brothers, Terry Driggers and wife, Tillie; Wallace Driggers and wife, Nita; Adolph Driggers and Fred Driggars and wife, Hazel; and a nephew, Alan Driggers and son.


She is survived by nephews, James L. Driggars (Brenda) of Clanton, AL  and  his son, Jason and son, Jonah of Las Vegas, NV; Charles R. Driggars (Joyce) of Birmingham, AL and their son, Joseph (Tara) and daughter, Hazel, all of Boone, NC; Charles A. Driggers (Judy) of Ashville, NC; a niece Ann Beagle and daughter, Jamie, both of Gainesville, FL; other nieces and nephews; two special cousins, Dorothy Ward and Peggy Merrill, both of Dothan.


Active pallbearers will be Jeff King, Sam Moore, Bob Zbendin, Sammy Prim, Ansley Jones and Vince Dooley.
