 Catherine W. Filo


Catherine W. Filo, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday, January 11, 2015 at Flowers Hospital. She was 93.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 15, 2015 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Rev. Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Wednesday night. The Rosary service will be said at 6:00 p.m.


Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL, 36303.


Mrs. Filo was born April 22, 1921 in the Panama Canal Zone. She grew up in Ancon, Panama Canal Zone and was a graduate of Balboa High School. In 1974, she moved to Dothan where she resided for the past 40 years. Mrs. Filo was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church, the Catholic Women’s Club and Panama Canal Society of Florida.


She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Paul Filo, Sr., a son, Edward Paul Filo, Jr., her sisters, Mary Dault and Margaret Janssen and a brother, Fenton Whelan.


Survivors include a daughter, Catherine Woods of Dothan and a son, Michael Filo (Cathy), of Dothan; four grandchildren, Matthew Woods, Christopher Woods, Jessica Filo and Patricia Filo and five great-grandchildren, Katelynn, Allie, Esa, Connor and C.J.
