Cecil Dolphus Dykes of Dothan passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016. He was 97.


 


Mr. Dykes was born November 30, 1918 in Dale County to the late Wesley and Bessie Dykes. Mr. Dykes served in the United States Army during World War II and Thunderbolt across Europe. He was in 3 major battles in Germany and France. He was self-employed as a building contractor. He was a longtime member of First Freewill Baptist Church of Dothan. He was also a member of the DAV. He loved life and the outdoors, especially fishing. He had great values, integrity, and strived to be the hardest working man for his family. He was loved by so many and will be sorely missed.


 


He was preceded in death by 7 brothers and 1 sister; 1 granddaughter, Teresa Dykes; 1 son-in-law, Lee Brannon; 1 daughter-in-law, Wanda Dykes.


 


Mr. Dykes is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lue Verna Dykes of Dothan; his son, Reverend Larry Dykes and his wife Carol of Dothan; Olivia Brannon of Dothan; his grandson, Jonathan Dykes and wife Tina of Columbus; 3 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; and a special lady, Tami Meadows of TX.


 


Funeral services will be held at 3 PM, Friday, August 5, 2016 at First Freewill Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy McNeal, Reverend Steve Trail officiating. Burial will follow at Dothan City Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing. A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 6-8PM from the chapel of Ward Wilson Funeral home.


 


The family will receive flowers or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice or First Freewill Baptist Church of Dothan.


A special thanks giving wonderful care to Mr. Cecil by Lynn, Cynthia, Sarah, and others.
