Charles Douglas Thornton, age 82, passed away, Tuesday, July 21, 2015 in a Dothan hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 24^th at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel with Rev. David Bradshaw officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, July 23^rd at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Coffee Springs Baptist Church, 434 N. Railroad Street, Coffee Springs, AL 36318.

Mr. Thornton dearly loved his family and he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.  He retired from the telephone company after 34 years service. While employed, he drove over one million miles without an accident.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ronny Pete Thornton; his parents, Oscar and Vera Thornton; brothers, Elmer, Gilbert, Harvey, Bob and Raymond Thornton; sisters, Gladys Magnoli, Mary Brooks and Vivian Thornton.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Alma Cara; sons, Doug (Debra) Thornton; Kevin Thornton; daughter-in-law, Linda Thornton Giles; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Gibbins; Gloria (Charlie) Webb; his dog, Nash.
