ASHFORD. . .Charlie V. Starling, a resident of Ashford, died Saturday morning, October 8, 2016, at his home. He was 90.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, October 10, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Johnny Roberts and Dr. Kevin Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in the Cowarts Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 P.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cowarts Baptist Church Building Fund, 2819 Jordan Avenue, Cowarts, AL 36321.


            Mr. Starling was born and reared in Henry County, son of the late Andrew Ephraim Starling and Vara V. Buxton Starling. He served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. Mr. Starling formerly lived in the Wills Crossroads community, near Abbeville, before moving to Ashford in 1990. He was a member of the Cowarts Baptist Church. Mr. Starling was a retired employee of Georgia Pacific in Cedar Springs, GA. He was preceded in death a sister, Annette Duke and a son-in-law, James E. (Jimmy) Dickens.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Jean Penuel Starling; three daughters, Diane Jinks (Morris), Cowarts; Sharon Smith (James), Ashford; and Vicki Jackson (Bert), Columbia; a son, Bruce Starling (Lisa), Abbeville; a brother, Thomas Starling (Elizabeth), Abbeville; ten grandchildren, Tammy Allen (Buddy), Chad Jinks (Heather), Keenan Jinks, Jennifer Harper (Michael), Tracy Watson (Mark), Kaci Riley, Dustin Jackson, Blake Brannon (Dawn), Benjamin Day (Tonya), and Bryant Day; fifteen great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Walter Jeff Doty, III and to caregivers of Home Instead especially Emily Smith and Stephanie Tolver, and also to Southern Care Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Starling during his illness.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be James Smith, Morris Jinks, Bert Jackson, Chad Jinks, Todd Riley and Mark Watson.
