DOTHAN….Clayton T. Bell, III (Major, U.S. Army, Retired), a resident of Dothan, died early Thursday evening, December 31, 2015, in Crowne Health Care Eufaula. He was 68.


            Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at Sunset Memorial Park with Reverend Freddie McCain officiating.


            Celebration of Life Services will be 6:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 5, 2016, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Freddie McCain officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the mortuary in Headland.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 1512 West Main St, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Mr. Bell was the son of the late Clayton T. Bell, Jr. and Charlene Ard Casey. He lived in his early years in Panama City, Florida before moving to Daleville. Mr. Bell was a 1965 graduate of Carroll High School in Ozark, AL and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Troy University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees. He taught in the school of business at Troy University in Dothan for many years until he began having health problems. Mr. Bell was twice chosen as the most outstanding adjunct faculty member. In 2005, he retired from Sears after 34 years, working his way up from sales to district manager for southeast Alabama, northwest Florida, and southwest Georgia hometown stores. Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, he was a 32nd degree Mason and a Shriner. He was a long time member of Northside Methodist Church and past president of the school board of Northside Methodist Academy.


            Mr. Bell served for thirty one years in the Army Reserves, retiring in 1998 at the rank of Major. After his son graduated from the Citadel and was commissioned as an officer, he was “turning it over” to him. He served as commander of the 851st Maintenance Company out of Abbeville during Desert Storm/Desert Shield. The unit was deployed to Saudi Arabia for seven months. Mr. Bell also served deployments to Germany, South Korea and the Panama Canal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, James Ard and Lovie Strickland Ard, Paternal grandparents Clayton T. Bell, Sr. and Era Riley Bell; infant granddaughter, Kendall Bell; mother-in-law, Vera Thompson Bell; brother-in-law, Joe Fitzgerald; sister-in-law, Gina Fitzgerald Skipper; and a very special aunt, Jewel Morris.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Janice Fitzgerald Bell, Dothan; daughter, Jennifer Wright (Shane), Dothan; son, Clayton T. Bell, IV (Ina), Dumfries, VA; grandchildren, Harrison and Caitlin Wright, and Emily and William Clayton Bell; brother, Ard Bell, Daleville; brother-in-law, Jerry Skipper; sister-in-law, Debbie Fitzgerald; niece, Brandi Skipper; nephews, Joey and Derek Fitzgerald, all of Dothan, and Keith Peterson, Murfreesboro, TN.


            The family would like to thank Dr. John Wessner of Dothan for the many years of special care he provided for our loved one.
