 Clyde B. Gilmore



Clyde B. Gilmore, 87, a resident of the Bay Springs Community, Dothan, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 following injuries sustained in a farming accident. 


Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 11, 2014 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Scott Cox and Rev. Coley Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 on Thursday. Mr. Gilmore will be placed in the church one hour prior to service time on Friday.


Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Bay Springs Baptist Church, 1721 S. Bay Springs Rd., Dothan, AL 36305 or Hartford Baptist Church, 105 E. Burch St., Hartford, AL 36344.


Mr. Gilmore was born February 23, 1927 in the Bay Springs Community where he lived most of his life. He was a 1944 graduate of Wicksburg High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball. In 1950 he graduated from Alabama Polytechnical Institute (now Auburn University) where he received a B.S. in Agricultural Science and a minor in Animal Husbandry. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy.  After graduating from college, he was a traveling salesman for Turner Manufacturing Company for several years. He then continued his career as a farmer which spanned for more than 60 years. Mr. Gilmore loved fishing and sports.


Mr. Gilmore is predeceased by his parents, J. H. and Beulah Gilmore and two brothers, Herman Gilmore and Harold Gilmore.


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Geraldine W. Gilmore, a son and daughter-in-law, Bates and Linda Gilmore, a grandson, Ethan B. Gilmore, all of the Bay Springs Community; a sister, Kathryn G. Hardwick of Cuthbert, GA; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Sara Williams of Enterprise; a sister-in-law, Patty Gilmore of the Bay Springs Community; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.


Serving as active pallbearers will be Bert Woodham, Jeff Thomley, Marty Snell, Brad Woodham, Steve Ketchum and Keith Howell.
