Col. (Ret.) Francis Max McCullar, formerly of Enterprise, AL, passed  away on Thursday, February 14, 2013 at his daughter Maxine’s home in Acworth, GA.  He was 93.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, February 18th at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with full military honors.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M., Sunday the 17th at the funeral home.

Today we lost a truly great and inspiring man, my grandfather, Max McCullar.  It was impossible to know him and not adore him, and he had a positive impact on everyone he met.  So much so that when he moved from Alabama to Georgia at 91, the entire town shut down and threw him a parade, declaring it Max McCullar Day.

Army Colonel, Aviation, and WWII Vet; raised in Kingsville, Texas where his dad worked on the King Ranch; Texas Aggie and President of the class of 1940; avid hunter (even with bows and arrows!); master carpenter; guitar player; quilter; volunteer at the local elementary school-reading to the kindergarteners into his 90s; built his own ultra light airplane, “Awsome”, in his garage that he flew solo well into his later years (painted maroon and white of course!);  Atlanta Braves fan; lover of Blue Bell ice cream; loving husband; wonderful father; and an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather. He taught us all how to truly enjoy life.  He never took a moment for granted and lived every second to the fullest until his last.

Granddaddy, you will be missed.  “Love you lots, and we’ll see you “round.”  COL (Ret) F. Max McCullar, March 7, 1919-February 14, 2013- with MaryLou McCullar Dudley, Susan McCullar McDowell and Maxine McCullar.

Colonel McCullar was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Reed McCullar, and two brothers, Harold and K. D. McCullar.

Survivors include Susan Reed McDowell (James) Fairvield, VA; Mary Lou Dudley (Michael) Stafford, VA; Maxine McCullar, Ackworth, GA; four grandchildren, Colleen Smith (James) Chicago, IL; Brian Hengen, Denver, CO; Meghann Peterlin, Arlington, VA; Katie Partin (Wesley), Louisville, KY; four great-grandchildren, Declan Smith, Caden Smith; Peyton Hengen; Ryan Hengen.
