Connie Ruth Cosby of Samson passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014.  She was 90.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Elbert Smith and Rev. Donald Gainey officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing.  The family will receive friends at the church Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until service time.  

Mrs. Cosby was born in Coffee County, Ala. on December 17, 1923 to the late William Early Avant and Ola Mae Wise Avant.  She graduated from Samson High School and attended Troy State University.  Prior to her retirement she taught school at Hacoda Elementary School for several years.  In her pastime Mrs. Cosby loved to fish.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Payne Cosby; five brothers, Fred, Welcome, Loicy, Elmer and Lennie; and a sister, Lona Bell Wise.

Mrs. Cosby is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Cosby.

She is survived by her two brothers, Alvie Avant and wife, Johnnie Faye of Kinston and Wayne Avant of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Annie King of Geneva and Faye Lewis of Tallahassee, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
