CSM (Ret) John H. Smith, 83, of Daleville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.  He was born on October 5, 1931, to the late Clyde and Frances Smith of Saint Cloud, FL. 


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory Chapel in Daleville, AL.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 PM until service time on Tuesday.


John is an Army Veteran who had a very successful career and retired in 1979 after 27 years’ service.  He was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War.


He had a follow-on civil service career as an Aviation Equipment Specialist while supporting Aircraft Logistics Management Division and Aviation Center Logistics Command.  He retired with a combined federal service of over 50 years.  He then had more time to spend bass fishing, which was a big part of his life.


Mr. Smith is survived by his wife Susanna Smith; two daughters, Christine Monaghan (Michael), Liane Sisson (Larry); a son, Rudi Hartmann; two granddaughters, Meagan and Melanie Monaghan; three grandsons, Brandon Sisson, Sean and Matthew Hartmann; brother, Clyde William Smith (Selma); a niece, Debra Veal.
