Debra R. Williamson

Debra (Ricketts) Williamson died at home in Birmingham on May 17, 2013. She was 60.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2 o'clock at the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in honor of Debbie Williamson.

Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Tommy Ricketts and her brother, Tommy (Rick), Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Ruth (Pounds) Ricketts; sister, Linda (Jimmy) Powell of Dothan; sons, Ryan (Kristin) Slaughter and Jonathan (Rachel) Slaughter;  grandchildren, Hardin and Charlie (Jonathan and Rachel) of Birmingham, to whom she was affectionately known as Gigi. She was the aunt and great-aunt to her sister's children and grandchildren.

Debbie was born September 7, 1952 in Andalusia, Alabama to Ruth and Tommy Ricketts. She grew up in Dothan, Alabama, where she graduated from Dothan High School in 1970. She attended Auburn University where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education in 1975. While at Auburn, she was a proud Kappa Delta and made many life-long friends. She taught kindergarten for many years in Dothan, Alabama and Austin, Texas. At the time of her death she was employed at Lakeshore Ridge Apartments in Birmingham.

Along with her family, Debbie left behind a large following of close friends, co-workers, and acquaintances. She never met a stranger. Her infectious laugh, twinkling eyes, mischievous nature, passion for life, faith in God, willingness to help others and her love for all people are but a small part of the legacy she leaves those who will forever hold her in their hearts.
