Dewey was born in Geneva on December 30, 1926 to Richard and Ella Milton.  Dewey grew up in the Lytle Community and graduated from Samson High School.  After high school, Dewey served in the United States Army and was assigned tours of duty in North Africa and the Pacific in World War II.  After being discharged, Dewey returned to Geneva to care for his parents, work and raise his family of five children. Dewey worked for many years at the Geneva cotton mill (1946-1963), and retired in 1989 after 26 years with Benson Wholesale and Fleming Foods in Geneva.

After his retirement, Dewey enjoyed mullet fishing every chance he had and loved farming his vegetable garden. He counted being named as Geneva County’s Outstanding Vegetable Producer as one of his favorite honors.

Dewey and his wife Tommie were active members of Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church where they continued to be involved even though he was no longer able to attend in person. Dewey was so full of life and had an infectious smile and laugh. He enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relishing every family event. His family and friends can always be heard telling stories about his big spirit and personality. Those who knew him would assure you his soul is resting with his Lord and Savior.

Dewey was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ella Milton; two sons, Randy Milton and Stan Milton; his sisters, Nelwyn Milton, Hazell Ezell, Reba Johnston and Christine Keith; and his brothers, Edward Milton and Tim Milton.

Survivors include his wife, companion and tirelessly devoted caregiver, Tommie Milton of Geneva; his daughter, Jeanae Graves (Steve), and sons, Dewey Milton, Jr. (Kem), and Mike Milton (Nance), all of Enterprise; his stepson, Jimmy Bell (Lisa) of DeFuniak Springs; a loving sister in law, Jo Ann Milton, (widow of Tim Milton) of Geneva, many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends that Dewey counted as family.
