ABBEVILLE. . .Dianne Boatwright Woodham, a resident of Abbeville, died Friday afternoon, March 6, 2015, in a Dothan hospital. She was 71.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 9, 2015, in the First Baptist Church of Abbeville with Reverend David Howle and Reverend Ray S. Reiley officiating and a eulogy to be given by Sarah Williams. Graveside services will follow in the Abbeville Memorial Cemetery-East with Reverend Ryan Johnson officiating. Holman-Abbeville Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:30 until 6:00 P.M. Sunday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, P.O. Box 4527, New York, New York 10163.


            Mrs. Woodham was born in Panama City, Florida, daughter of the late James Andrew Boatwright and Flora Champion Boatwright. She lived in Abbeville most of her lifetime. Mrs. Woodham was the 1961 Class Valedictorian of Abbeville High School. She received a B. A. Degree in Journalism from the University of Alabama where she was named the outstanding Journalism graduate in 1968. Mrs. Woodham served as the front page editor of the Tuscaloosa News and was its first woman editor. She was an award winning freelance writer and a beloved Abbeville Christian Academy teacher.


            Mrs. Woodham was a member of the First Baptist Church of Abbeville where she formerly taught a children’s Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Abbeville Matrons Club, the Creative Writing Club, Founder of the Unicorn Book Club and was a charter member of the Henry County Historical Society. Mrs. Woodham was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Faison.


            As a courageous fighter of a crippling disease, Dianne was known by her friends and family as one of dignity, grace, and southern charm. All will remember her steadfast allegiance to the Atlanta Braves and the Alabama Crimson Tide.


            Surviving relatives include her husband, District Judge, Retired, Charles W. Woodham, Abbeville; a daughter, Molly Bailey (Jabo), Huntsville, AL; a son, Chuck Woodham, Smyrna, GA; two grandchildren, Jeremy Bailey and Patrick Bailey; brothers-in-law, Lucius Faison, and Gene Woodham (Guen), and a sister-in-law, Sarah Williams; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Kevin Woodham, Justin Woodham, R. E. Phillips, Jr., Chris Faison, Charles McElroy, Jerry Marvel, Rick Champion and Ken Bedsole. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Henry and Houston County Bar Associations, the Meadowlinks Golf Group and the Abbeville Matrons Club.
