Donald Ray Morgan, Sr., 76, of Dothan passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at his residence following an extended illness.


Funeral services will be 11 am Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edward Morgan and Rev. C.J. Morgan officiating. Burial will follow at 3 pm in Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery in the Rose Hill Community. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Alacare Hospice, 3379 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36305.


Mr. Morgan was born on November 20, 1936 in Crenshaw County, Alabama, to Lilla and Cellus Morgan. He grew up in Crenshaw and Covington counties. He moved to Dothan in 1958 to accept a job with Dothan Dental Lab where he trained to become a certified dental technician. He eventually opened his own dental lab, Morgan Dental Lab, which he operated until illness forced his retirement in 2009. He served the dental community of Dothan for over 50 years.


He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Martha Louise Watley Morgan; his daughter, Eva Elizabeth Morgan Cole; his parents, a brother, Douglas Morgan; and a sister, Alene Morgan Odom.


Survivors include his daughters, Rebecca (Jack) Barkley, Donna (Steve) Blackerby, and his sons, Ray (Dawn) and Sam Morgan; his grandchildren, Danielle (Bill) Hall, Amanda and Caroline Barkley, Travis Morgan, Jacob Blackerby and Ryan Morgan. He is survived by one great-granddaughter, Gabraelle Hall. He is also survived by a brother, Reverend C.J. Morgan, and three sisters; Ruth Page, Glenda (Frank) Alsup and Nell McKenzie, as well as 15 nieces and nephews.


He will be missed by family pets Lightning, Pearl and Charlie. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to the staff of Alacare Hospice for their care, concern, and guidance during Mr. Morgan’s final days.


Serving as pallbearers will be Joe Thompson, Jacob Blackerby, Travis Morgan, Steve Morgan, Chuck Morgan, Robert Cole and Danny Odom.
