Dr. Ernest Lelias Jackson of Enterprise went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 6, 2014 in the Southeast Alabama Medical Center. He was 88.


Funeral services will be 11:30am Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Sorrells Funeral Home & Crematory Chapel in Enterprise with Dr. Michael Mynatt officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Meadowlawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 until 7pm. 


Dr. Jackson was born November 20, 1925 in Albertville, AL to the late Herman A. and Carrie Howard Jackson. He entered the U.S. Army 1944 in which he served during WW II, serving in the 101st Airborne Division, the 506 P.I.R.(Parachute Infantry Regiment) and later retired as a Colonel from the U. S. Army Reserves. Later in 1949, he entered the University of Alabama where he earned his medical degree in Dentistry. He was a 32 degree mason as well as a member of The Gideons. He was also a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church.


In addition to his parents, 2 sisters and a brother preceded him in death.


Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Edna Moring Jackson, Enterprise, daughter: Angela Merimon (Ray) , Enterprise, AL, sons: Mike Jackson (Sue), Enterprise, AL, Phil Jackson (Ellen), Arlington, TX, 4 grandchildren: Scott Jackson, Todd Jackson, Carrie Breashears and Emily DeWees, 9 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
