Dr. John H. Lester, age 79, of Enterprise, AL, passed away, Monday, July 18, 2016 in Medical Center Enterprise.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Richards officiating.  Burial will follow in Meadowlawn Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home directing.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M., at Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 4015 Hwy. 27, Enterprise, AL 36330.

Dr. John was a 1962 Auburn graduate and served as President of the senior class of the Veterinary School. He practiced veterinary medicine in Enterprise for 47 years.

He was the first President of the Enterprise City Council and he served for 24 years.  Among the honors he held were, Man of the Year, AUSA President, Chamber of Commerce President, United Way Chairman, Heart Association Chairman and many other service organizations.

Among the State of Alabama honors were, USS Alabama Board, Agricultural Board, Alabama Veterinary Association Board, Alabama Dept. of (ADEM) Environmental Management where he was the longest serving member in the history of ADEM.  He was a member of Jubilee Masonic Lodge and Alcazar Shrine Temple.

Dr. John was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. 

Survivors include his wife, Jane Lester, Enterprise, AL; daughter, Elisabeth Lester Donaldson, Enterprise, AL; son and daughter-in-law, John H. Lester, Jr. (Ann) Troy, AL; grandchildren, William Donaldson, Nashville, TN; John W. Lester, II, Johnson City, TN; Kathryn Donaldson, Birmingham, AL; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law,  Tom and Linda Tarpley, Enterprise, AL; Dr. Louis Jones, Andalusia, AL.
