SKIPPERVILLE…Edger Ray Galloway, a resident of Skipperville, passed away at his home Friday, April 8, 2016. He was 94.


            Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Monday, April 11, 2016, in the Browns United Methodist Church with Reverend Marquis Wingard, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M. in the church. Graveside services, with full military honors, will follow in the church cemetery with Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations directing.


            In lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be made to Browns United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Wanda Wright, 713 Frankfort Drive, Dothan, AL 36305.


            Ray was born March 4, 1922 to the late John Albert and Elizabeth Brown Galloway, and was reared in the Browns Church Community. He was a member of the Browns United Methodist Church as their eldest member.


At the age of nineteen, he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII, and later in the Korean Conflict. Afterward, he pursued a career with the Alabama Army National Guard in Montgomery, and rose to the rank of First Sergeant (E-8) as an aircraft mechanic, retiring in 1973. He then followed the dream of his life…cultivating the land of his heritage and building his home in the Browns Church Community.


Survivors include his wife, Lois Howell Galloway, Skipperville, AL; two daughters, Jo Ann (Donald) Oswald, Montgomery; Mary Elizabeth Galloway, Charleston, S.C.; one son, John Arthur (Jeanette) Galloway, Skipperville; one brother, John A. Galloway, Jr., Skipperville. Also surviving are his five cherished grandchildren: one granddaughter, Christina Galloway, Skipperville; four grandsons, Donnie (Robyn) Oswald, Jonathan Oswald, Blake (Heather) Lugenbeal, and Bryce Lugenbeal. Several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters: Effie Galloway Hughes, Ruby Galloway, Mary Ella Galloway Adkins, Erma Lois Galloway Sheffield; one brother, Fred Galloway; two sisters-in-law, Mattie Galloway and Betty Galloway; two brothers-in-law, Mixon Hughes and J.W. Adkins.


Serving as active pallbearers are David Galloway, Tim Galloway, and grandsons: Donnie Oswald, Jonathan Oswald, Blake Lugenbeal and Bryce Lugenbeal.


Serving as honorary pallbearers are the congregation of Browns United Methodist Church and the community of precious friends and neighbors.
