HALEBURG. . .Edis Elliott Yance, a resident of Haleburg, died early Friday morning, January 16, 2015, in the Henry County Health & Rehabilitation Facility in Abbeville. She was 87 years old.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 19, 2015, in the Haleburg Baptist Church with Reverend Ray Cobb and Reverend Riley Enfinger officiating. A eulogy will be given by a grandson, Murray Yance. Burial will follow in the Haleburg Cemetery. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Haleburg Cemetery Fund, c/o Sara Pitchford, 3108 County Road 112, Columbia, AL 36319.


            Mrs. Yance was born in the Camp Springs community of Henry County on December 3, 1927, to the late John Jason (Buck) Elliott and Vassie Whatley Elliott. She, along with her family, moved to the Haleburg community in 1935. She attended community schools, Newville High School, and graduated from Moultrie High School, Moultrie, Georgia, in 1946.


            Mrs. Yance married Clarence Arious Yance on November 23, 1946; they celebrated fifty years of marriage, before his death in 1997.


            Mrs. Yance was active in the Haleburg Baptist Church, where she was a member. She attended faithfully until declining health prevented her from doing so. In earlier years, she worked with the youth and children. Her later years were devoted to church and pastorium improvements and upkeep. She supervised the Building and Grounds Committee for many years. Mrs. Yance felt strongly about helping those in need, and generously did so.


            Mrs. Yance was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters, Mary Ella Worsham and Wynelle Gordon, four brothers, Harnage Elliott, John Elbert Elliott, Scott Elliott and Christie Joe Elliott, a daughter-in-law, Lana Yance, and a precious granddaughter, Heather Cordelia Yance.


            Surviving relatives include two sons, Ronnie Yance (Mary), and Terry Yance (Margaret), all of Haleburg; sisters-in-law, Jane Elliott, Haleburg; and Margaret Wilcox, Moberly, MO; six grandchildren, Kris Blanchard (Flex), Jim Yance (Jessica), Murray Yance (Jana), Emily Forrester (Clint), Gayla Swann (Lee), and Kenny Dunning (Rachael); seven great-grandchildren, Raeleigh Swann, Cameron Forrester, Cody Yance, Tye Yance, Heather Yance, Mary Ellen Forrester, and Ava Dunning; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be the grandsons and grandsons-in-law.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to special caretakers, Patricia Money, Inez Kelley, Nina Vickers, and Maranda Morris for their loving care and kindness shown to Mrs. Yance during her illness.
