Edward Lee "Tappa" Mathis-Lampkin, 52, a resident of Dothan passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at a local hospital.


Funeral services will be 10 am Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in St. John A.M.E. Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 9-10 am prior to the service at the funeral home.


Mr. Mathis was born February 9, 1962 in Houston County, AL. As a child, he became a member of Adam Street Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and loved to fellowship with his peer group, as well as adults. This church latter became Greater Beulah Baptist Church. He was a member of the Sons and Daughters of The Levites Organization under the direction of Mr. Homer L. Forrester. He attended Dothan City Schools, where he enjoyed playing sports and continued to maintain a helpful, friendly relationship with his friends, as well as his teachers, as long as the Lord allowed each to be in the life of the other. He was employed in various occupations. Carpentry, along with restorations of a building, was his chosen profession.


He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cleve and Ruby McDaniel Mathis of Dothan, AL along with many other relatives and friends.


He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Patricia Mathis Lampkin McCree of Oklahoma; his father Willie and Juanita Lampkin of Dothan; his aunt Mary Madison of Oklahoma; a devoted companion Janie Ingram of Dothan; his sons Rocshun Mathis of Dothan and Leon Ingram of Dothan; his daughters Tia Bennett of South Carolina and Miracle Mathis of Dothan; his 5 granddaughters; his brother and sisters, Michael Lampkin of Dothan, Rena Mathis of Florida, Sharon Lampkin of Oklahoma, and Carolyn Reynolds of Newville, AL; 2 nieces and 4 nephews; a host of many beloved relatives and friends.


Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Godwin, Karey Godwin, Anthoney Anderson, Michael Lampkin, Jr., Ivin Lampkin, and Gary Anderson.
