DOTHAN. . .Eileen Massey Haisten, a resident of Dothan, died early Thursday morning, May 29, 2014, in a Dothan hospital. She was 89.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 2, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Ricky Plummer officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church, “Building a Legacy Building Fund”, 3257 E. Cottonwood Road, Dothan, AL 36301.


            Ms. Haisten was born and reared in Dallas County, Alabama, daughter of the late James Stennis Edwards and Edna Willetta Samples Edwards. She lived in the Pleasant Plains community, between Headland and Columbia, before moving to Dothan in 1987. Ms. Haisten was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church and was a former member of the Selma Baptist Church. She and her late husband, George Pope Massey, formerly owned and operated Massey’s 431 Gulf.  Ms. Haisten was also preceded in death by one sister, and three brothers.


            Surviving relatives include three daughters, Betty Plummer (Maurice), Kathy Carroll (Bob), all of Dothan; Donna Tieman (Dr. Jim Tieman), Granger, Indiana; a sister, Doris Oakes, North Carolina; three brothers, Clyde Edwards, Chattanooga, TN; Bob Edwards, Selma, AL; and Pete Edwards, Selma, AL; eight grandchildren, Deedra Edwards (Clay), Paige Whigham (Greg), Dr. Ricky Plummer (Leah), Chris Smith, Jennifer Stasiak (Ed), Brittany Long (Brian), Dr. Katie Marshall, and Melanie Baird;  thirteen great-grandchildren.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Brandon Plummer, Tyler Dill, Joey Blythe, Ross Blythe, Chris Smith and Clay Edwards.
