COLUMBIA….Elaine Whatley Williams, a resident of Columbia, passed away Sunday morning, December 21, 2014 in Signature Healthcare of North Florida in Graceville. She was 81.


            Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 23, 2014, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Walter Reeder officiating. Burial will follow in the Columbia City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until 1:00 P.M. Tuesday at the mortuary.


            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 4215 Kelson Avenue, Suite E, Marianna, Florida 32446 or to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, P.O. Box 1170, Dothan, Alabama 36302.


            Mrs. Williams was born in Webb and reared in Columbia where she lived all of her adult life. She was the daughter of the late Virgil Lee Whatley and Sinnie Frances Laney Whatley.  Mrs. Williams was retired from East Gate Pharmacy as a bookkeeper after thirty five years of employment. She was a lifetime member of the Columbia United Methodist Church and formerly served on the Administrative Board. Mrs. Williams was a former member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Columbia Chapter No. 9.


            Mama Laine, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was never happier than when she was working in her garden, tending to her amaryllis and daylilies. She enjoyed sharing these with her family, friends, and church. Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Kirkland and Eula Armstrong; a brother, Horace Lee Whatley.


            Surviving relatives include her husband of sixty three years, Martin Lewis Williams, Columbia; a daughter, Kathy W. Holer (Tom), Dothan; a son, Martin Lynn Williams (Barbara),Columbia; a sister, Jeanette Lumpkins, Columbus, GA; three grandchildren, Brandi Williams Davis, Daniel Lynn Williams, and Amy Holer Bell (Brad); two great-grandchildren, Haley and Haiden Davis. 


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Daniel Williams, Brad Bell, Adam Williams, Andy Williams, Glenn Will and Patrick Will.
