WARRENTON, VA . . . Ellen Hodges Childs, a resident of Warrenton, Virginia, and formerly of Dothan, died Wednesday afternoon, February 24, 2016, in the Kindred Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was 89.


            Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 28, 2016, in the Memory Hill Cemetery, Dothan, with Reverend Lynn S. Nesbitt officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services.


            Mrs. Childs was born and reared in Dothan, daughter of the late Jay Alexander Hodges and Lucile Cohron Hodges. She lived most of her adult lifetime in Dothan, Northwest Florida, the Atlanta area and also in Hillsborough, N.C. before moving to Virginia in 2014. Mrs. Childs retired as an elementary school teacher in Rehobeth, Alabama and in earlier years, taught school in Florida, Georgia and Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Childs, and three brothers, Fred Hodges, Glen Hodges and Bruce Hodges.


            Surviving relatives include two daughters, Annette Fiddler (George), Warrenton, VA; and Gina Sims-Billing (Michael), Hillsborough, NC; a sister, Mabel Hodges Sellers (Jerry), Dothan; two sisters-in-law, Votie Hodges, Dothan; and Sidney Hodges, Mims, FL; a granddaughter, Carolyn Fiddler (Daniel Mayer), Arlington, VA; several nieces and nephews.
