Evelyn Stanton Collier of Dothan passed away on Saturday March 30, 2013 after a brief illness. She was 85 years old.


Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at the Ward Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with her nephew, L. Jack Glasgow Jr. officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 9 to 11 am prior to the service. Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery with Ward Wilson Funeral Home directing.


Flowers are being accepted or the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society P.O. Box 1045 Dothan, AL 36302, the Houston-Love Memorial Library, or Calvary Baptist Church, Dothan, AL.


Mrs. Collier is predeceased by her husband, Isaac David Collier Sr. (Ike). She is survived by her children, Isaac David Collier, Jr., John Stanton Collier, and Mary Evelyn Collier Smith (Mark L.), her grandchildren Andrew Collier Smith, Kevin Lane Smith, Catherine Carroll Collier, and Isaac Stanton Collier, sister-in-law Mary Nell Watson, and several nieces and nephews.


Mrs. Collier was born July 6, 1927 in Century, FL to John Comer Stanton and Willie Mae Stanton. She spent her early life in Albany, GA, graduating as the valedictorian of Albany High School. She attended college at Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA, having served as class president. She and her family moved to Dothan in the late 40’s, where she met her future husband and married in 1948 at First Baptist Church. She and her late husband, Ike, were married for 54 years prior to his death.


She was active in her community until her death, having been a Past President of the Mid Century Study Club. She served in multiple positions involving her children and grandchildren over the years and was very loving and interested in their lives.


Mrs. Collier was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Dothan for over 50 years. She served in multiple roles in her church, including teaching Vacation Bible School, being a deacon’s wife, and teaching 3 year olds in preschool Sunday School for over 30 years. She dearly loved the members of Calvary, especially the ladies of her Sunday School class.


Mrs. Collier had worked in the past as a teacher’s aide in the Dothan City Schools and later retired from the Houston-Love Memorial Library after several years, having greatly enjoyed serving and meeting the people of Dothan.


She showed her love of animals by volunteering at the Wiregrass Humane Society gift shop after her retirement.


She loved her family and friends, her church, her community, and all animals, especially her cat, Sonny. She was deeply loved and respected, and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.


Pallbearers will be Andrew Collier Smith, Kevin Lane Smith, Mike Petty, Tim Rhodes, Phillip Atkinson, Thomas Isaac Watson, Dr. Wayne Collier Glasgow, Woody Farrington and Isaac Stanton Collier.
