HEADLAND. . .Everett Eugene Oney, a resident of County Road 45, South, Headland, died Monday afternoon, July 8, 2013, at his home. He was 75.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, July 13, 2013, in the Holman-Headland Mortuary Chapel with Reverend Thomas D. Gamble officiating. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow in Gardens of Memory, between Headland and Dothan. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the mortuary in Headland.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.


            Mr. Oney was born in Zalaski, Ohio and was reared in McArthur, Ohio, son of the late Reese Oney and Emma Ida Morrison Oney. A Navy veteran, he served two and a half tours of duty in Vietnam.  Mr. Oney lived in Dothan before moving to the Tolbert Community of Henry County in 1973. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in McArthur, Ohio and most recently attended Freedom Fellowship in Abbeville. Mr. Oney was a member of the Bradley-Keller American Legion Post in Abbeville, the V.F.W. in Dothan, and was a former member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge both of Dothan. He was retired as Assistant Manager from All South Machinery and Supply Company of Dothan. Mr. Oney was preceded in death by a son, Robert Oney, and a brother, Alfred Oney.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Faye Kilpatrick Oney, Headland; three daughters, Jennifer Edelmann (Mike), Gallipolis, Ohio; Beth Dodd (Jim), Columbus, Ohio; and Debbie Ryals (Gary), Rehobeth, AL; a son, Calvin Oney (Alberta), Logan, Ohio; four sisters, Mary Cogley, Rita Williams, Angela Claggett, and Sherry Brobst, all of Ohio; two brothers, Floyd Oney, Ft. Myers, FL; and Alvin Oney, Middleport, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Donna Oney, Ohio; and Sue Ann Slaten (Curtis), Somerville, AL; thirteen grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; special friends, Cheri Wilson and Brenda Hundley.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to Gentiva Hospice for the loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Oney.



             Serving as active pallbearers will be Chris Smith, John Curtis Smith, Jim Cobia, Joe Armstrong, Jack Shiver and Glenn Pate.
