Faye Marie Ward Howell of Coffee Springs, AL passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016. She was 78. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016, at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James Preachers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Pittman Funeral Home of Samson directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 17, 2016, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Mrs. Howell was born in Geneva County on April 20, 1937, to the late Offie Elijah and Elsie Ivynez Ward. She worked for Van Heusen in Geneva for many years and later retired from Sony with more than twenty years of service.

Mrs. Howell, affectionately known as “Granny Faye,” sacrificed herself for her family, friends and strangers her entire life. She never met a stranger, especially one in need. She single-handedly raised four children with no government assistance. Granny Faye was the hardest working person we’ve ever known. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William Howell; and grandson, Jonathon Forrest Weeks.

She is survived by four children, Debra Whittle (Norman) of Enterprise, Donnie O’Neal Weeks (Teri Lee) of Daleville, John David “JD” Weeks (Kim) of Enterprise and Anthony Darrell Weeks (Marketta) of Murfreesboro, TN; fifteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; five sisters; one brother; and numerous nieces and nephews.
