Florene Garner Richardson, 85, died at her home Thursday afternoon, February 5, 2015.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Byrd Funeral Home, 84 West, with Reverend Rick Glenn and Reverend Thomas Kirkland officiating. Burial will follow at Dothan City Cemetery with Byrd Funeral Home directing.


The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, February 7, from 6-8 p.m. At other times the family will be at home on Lighthouse Drive.


Born in Ariton, AL she was the youngest child of the late Josiah and Annie Stuckey Garner. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Richardson, Jr., a daughter, Cheryl Melissa Richardson, three brothers, Bunyan Garner, Seba Garner, and William T. “Wiz” Garner, four sisters, Mavis Garner Miller, Mildred Garner Sutton, Lorene Garner and Lucille Garner Creamer.


Florene is survived by her son, Jeffrey Paul Richardson and his fiancée, Evangeline Bailey, of Dothan; one sister-in-law, Linda Richardson Scott (Jerry) of Dothan; two brothers-in-law, Oliver Richardson (Martha) of Black, AL and Kermit Richardson (Eula) of Dothan; her godchild, Heather Thompson Jones of Port St. Joe, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.


She also leaves behind her constant companion and beloved dog, Teddy.


Florene spent her early years in Ariton, Echo, and Enterprise and moved to Dothan in the mid 1950’s. It was during her recuperation from the serious car accident which killed her daughter Cheryl, injured her husband, and critically injured her that she was inspired to become a nurse. Upon graduation from nursing school, she accepted a job with Flowers Hospital and after twenty-eight successful years she retired in 1990. Upon her retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling. Florene was a member of Memphis Baptist Church.


Pallbearers will be Garner Graves, Joseph Rish, Patrick Justice, Travis Patterson, Chad Snell and Steve Everett.


The family wishes to thank nurses, Shannon Hudson, Vanita Newman, and Sherrie Hughes of Southern Care Hospice, caretakers, Anna Ward, Vivian Murry and Kim Miller for the love and care they provided to Florine during her illness.
