COLUMBIA. . .Foy Edward McCraney, a resident of the Pleasant Plains Community, between Headland and Columbia, died Friday afternoon, May 16, 2014, in the emergency room of a Dothan hospital. He was 86.


            Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday, May 19, 2014, in the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church with Reverend Ricky Sowell officiating. Graveside services will follow in the Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Don Moore officiating. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 3:00 until 4:00 P.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.


            Mr. McCraney was born and reared in the Pleasant Plains community of Houston County, son of the late Willie Foy (Buck) McCraney and Thelma Davis McCraney. He served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War era and also as a member of the Army National Guard in the Headland unit. Mr. McCraney lived in Panama City, Florida before returning to Henry County in 1979. He was a member of the Hebron Baptist Church and attended the Pleasant Plains Baptist Church. Mr. McCraney was retired as a Millwright from the Great Southern Paper Company at Cedar Springs, Georgia. In earlier years, he was employed by the International Paper Company in Panama City where he also retired after twenty-eight years of employment. Mr. McCraney enjoyed spending time with his family and in his garden, where he grew vegetables to share with the entire community. Mr. McCraney was preceded in death by a sister, Betty McCraney Floyd, and a granddaughter, Anna Michelle Shelley.


            Surviving relatives include his wife, Betty Snellgrove McCraney, Columbia; three daughters, Pam McCraney Jackson (Tom), Nashville, TN; Ann McCraney Thames (Jim), Headland; and Jan McCraney Shelley (Kirby), Tumbleton Community; a son, Reverend Tim McCraney (Janet), Headland; a brother, Tony McCraney (Janice), Columbia; six grandchildren, Amanda Jackson, Alex Jackson (Whitney), Zach Shelley (Fiance,’Amber), Taylor Wheeler (Brandon), Kasey Shelley Nowell, and Julia McCraney; five great-grandchildren, Lauren Jackson, Samantha Jackson, Xander Jackson, Mahayla Nowell, and Laykyn Hudson.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Alex Jackson, Zach Shelley, Jim Smith, Brian McCraney, Daniel Shelley, and Lyn Blair.
