Mrs. Frances Waters Tindell, a resident of Dothan, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Extendicare Heath Care. She was 90.


Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the chapel of First United Methodist Church with Dr. James Sanders officiating and Byrd Funeral Home on West Main Street directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Young At Heart, c/o First United Methodist Church, 1380 W. Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.


Mrs. Tindell was born February 14, 1923 in Covington County, Alabama and lived her early life there. She graduated from University of Alabama with a degree in Library Science. She was president of the Mortar Board, treasurer of Kappa Kappa Gamma, and was the founding librarian of Girard Junior High School in Dothan where she worked for 10 years prior to retirement. She then became a Tole painter and was a very successful artist and traveled extensively. Mrs. Tindell was an active member of First United Methodist Church, and particularly active in Young At Heart. She was an avid gardener and walker.


She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Tindell, and her grandson, Wesley Prottsman.


Survivors include her son, James Waters Tindell of Riverdale, NY; her daughter, Mary Fran Prottsman (Ron) of Panama City, FL; and grandson, Whit Prottsman (Laura) of New Orleans.
