Fred Large, 62,  owner/operator of Smitty’s Grill in Blakely was found dead at his home this morning, August 20, 2014 from natural causes. Fred’s wishes were to be cremated and his family is honoring his request. There will be a memorial service Saturday morning, Aug. 23, 2014 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home. Rev. Rick Turner will be officiating.


Fred was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. on Dec. 20, 1951 to the late Clarence Large and Margaret Estelle Mercer Lane. He was Owner & Operator of Smitty’s Grill for some 23 years, after he and his wife Sheila bought the grill. Sheila die in 2008 but Fred kept the grill going and had recently enlarged the grill to accommodate more of his customers. Fred had attended First United Methodist Church in Blakely, Ga.


Fred was survived by 2 daughters: Kristina Marie Large and her husband Brian Daubs of Port St. Lucie, Fl. and Gabby Kronshage of Blakely and Valdosta. Fred has 1 grandson: Brayden Daubs Port St. Lucie, Fl. There are 2 sisters: Diane Marie Baker of Lake Worth, Fl. and Barbara Kay Baker of Ashford, Al. and there is 1 brother: Donald Large and his wife Helen of Wilmington, NC.
