            George Mitchell Reid, age 83, went to meet his Christ on Monday, April 29, 2013 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham, AL.

            His celebration of life will be at 10:30 am Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Bellwood Baptist Church with Reverend Ralph Brannon and Reverend Dickey McAllister officiating and Sorrells Funeral Home and Crematory of Enterprise directing.  Burial will follow in the Bellwood cemetery.  The body will be placed into the church one hour prior to the service.  The family will receive friends at Sorrells Funeral Home Wednesday, May 1 from 6 until 8 pm.

            George M. was born April 19, 1930 to the late George and Bertha Lee Walden Reid of Bellwood, AL.  He married Virginia Lawrence in 1970.  In 1972 George and Virginia returned to Bellwood to establish their home and career.  A lifelong educator, George taught or served in school administration with Birmingham Schools, Dothan City Schools, and the Geneva County School System where he served as director of vocational education.  In 1988, George was elected to serve as the Superintendent for the Geneva County School System.

            In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Bryan Osowski (Walter), and his brother, Jake Bryan (Dorothy).

            He is survived by his forever wife, Virginia Reid, Bellwood, AL; his son, Mitchell Lawrence Reid, Mitchell’s wife, Sarah McCarron Stokes, and their son, Walden McCarron Reid of Hoover, AL; his daughters, Ginna Lee Reid of Asheville, NC, and Michelle Jane Reid of Homewood, AL.
