 Georgilee Henry 'Hank' Elmore

Georgilee "Hank" Henry Elmore, age 93, died on Wednesday, March 9th, at her home in Panama City Beach, Florida.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stanhope Elmore, four sisters and one brother. She is survived by her two daughters, Jane Elmore  and Kate Elmore Wolverton (Robert); three grandchildren, Sara Hope Mickle, James Andrew Mickle IV, and Henry "Hank" Wolverton; daughter-niece Janie VanDeventer; several other nieces and nephews and their families, as well as many dear friends.

Hank was born in Crane, Missouri, to Lily Jane and James Hugh Henry. She attended the University of Oklahoma and was a member of the Women's Army Corp during WWII.  Serving as a nurse in Ft. Myers, Hank was later introduced to Stanhope Elmore by her commanding officer Doctor B (whose wife was Stanhope's cousin), as a "wacky" WAC.  The wackiness worked- they were married, lived in Independence, Kansas, and then moved to Dothan, Alabama, in 1953. They celebrated 55 wonderful years of marriage before his death in 2002.

Hank had a great affinity for life- and fun! Her passions included playing golf and her holes-in-one at the Dothan Country Club, Coca-Cola, the Episcopal Church, her grandchildren, the University of Alabama Nursing School, the beach, dirty martinis, and ALABAMA football!  She was an avid and die-hard (borderline obnoxious) Roll Tide fan! She was especially proud of being a Paul Harris Fellow and a board member of the Dothan Rescue Mission. She loved helping people and being active with her charities, but she hated to cook.  She always said the perfect house was one without a kitchen! In honor of Hank's spirit, there will be a Celebration of her Life in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hank Elmore Nursing Scholarship c/o Shelley Jordan, Box 879358, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 35487; the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, Dothan, Alabama; St. Thomas by the Sea, Panama City Beach, Florida; the Dothan Rescue Mission; VA Hospital, Birmingham; or any charity of your choice.
