Gerald L. Hartley of New Brockton, AL, passed away November 1, 2014 at his home.  He was 77.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Bethany Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Dye officiating.  Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery with Searcy Funeral Home and Crematory directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 6 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to:  The Crossover Ministries, 508 Hwy 52 East, Opp, AL  36467.

Mr. Hartley retired from the US Army at the rank of CW3. He also retired from Enterprise High School as the ROTC Instructor. He helped with the preservation of the bluebird by building bluebird houses and educating the public of their importance. He served as a spiritual counselor with Crossover Ministries of Opp, Alabama.

Survivors include his sweet wife of 55 years, Iris Hartley, New Brockton, AL; 3 daughters, Leslie Hartley, New Brockton, AL, Diana Vallely (Nick), Valdosta, GA, Ruthann Tate (Dwain), New Brockton, AL; 5 grandchildren, Junior Herring, Danielle Vallely, Christian Izquierdo, Ryne Vallely, Harley Newsome; a great-grandson, Lyle Izquierdo; a brother, Earl Hartley (Mary), South Carolina.
