NEWVILLE…Girlie Peterson Bond, a resident of the Union Springs Community, near Newville, died early Tuesday afternoon, June 2, 2015. She was 97.



            Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, June 4, 2015, in the Union Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Reverend Jim Corley and Reverend Guy Causey officiating.  Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends following the graveside services in the church fellowship hall.



            In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gentiva Hospice, P.O. Drawer 2127, Dothan, Alabama 36302.        



Mrs. Bond was born and reared in Henry County, daughter of the late William Henry Peterson and Edie Holland Peterson. She lived in the Union Springs Community most of her adult lifetime, where she was a member of the Union Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Bond was retired from WestPoint Stevens in Abbeville after twenty-seven years employment. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ezron (Dock) Bond, a son, Dirk Wayne Bond, a son-in-law, Ken Rhodes, three sisters, Amy Bond, Gussie Royals, and Tamsie Wright, two brothers, Tullis Dewey Peterson and Alfrus Ray Peterson.



            Surviving relatives include a daughter, Gayle Bond Rhodes, Headland; a daughter-in-law, Ann Windham Bond, Newville; six grandchildren, Jana Murray (Keith), Heath Bond (Judy Kilpatrick), Alan Bond (Tiffany), Wendy Press (Steve), Ann Bottoms (Dwayne), and Patrick Rhodes; ten great-grandchildren, including a special great-granddaughter, Brooke Cox, who cared for Mrs. Bond for many years; five great-great grandchildren and one on the way; several nieces and nephews.



            Serving as active pallbearers will be Jimmy Dan Bond, Gene Arnold, Malcolm Kemp, Steve Peterson, Paul Peterson, and Terry Jones.
