Gregory Michael Gordon, 22, of Ashford, AL went home to be with the Lord Tuesday morning January 15, 2013 in Waikiki Hawaii; where he was stationed at Shofield Barracks in the U.S. Army.


            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm. Sunday, January 27, 2013 at Ashford High School with Reverend Judy Dyson officiating. Graveside will follow at Shady Grove Holiness Church, in Pansey.  Visitation will be held at Ward Wilson Funeral Home in Dothan between 5-8 pm. Saturday, January 26, 2013.


            Greg was born and raised in Ashford. He was a graduate of Ashford High School, there he played football and was a member of various clubs. He enlisted in the Army shortly after graduating in 2009. He attended basic training in Fort Knox, KY and advanced training at Fort Sill, OK. He was then stationed to Hawaii and deployed with his unit to Afghanistan in April of 2011. He served as a fire support specialist with the 3rd Squadron, 4th Calvary Regiment, and 3rd Brigade Combat Team out of Schofield Barracks. He served nine months in Afghanistan and had been back in Hawaii for almost a year before his tragic passing. While overseas he earned numerous awards and medals, including the National Defense Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Global War on Terrorism Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon. Greg was a loving father, son, grandson, brother, nephew, and friend to everyone. He attended Shady Grove Holiness Church in Pansey. He will be truly missed.


            He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Roy Gordon, Grandfather James Long, Grandfather John Tate, Grandmother Edna Jackson, and his Uncle Billy Harper.


            Survivors include his son Gauge Gordon and Kleigh Logan, mother. Mom and Dad, Tracey and Todd Gordon; Mother and Step-Father, Diane and Ken Davis; four brothers, Jonathon and wife Shae, Timothy, Tyler, and Brent Gordon; Sisters of Heart, Meagan Childress and Logan Lucas. Brothers of Heart, Kameron McClenny and Keith McCory; Grandparents, Winell Tate, Robert and Shelia Whitten, and Betty Smith; Aunts, Mikki Bradley, Dusty Green, Janie Harper, Terry Cunningham and husband Jeff; Uncles, Tony Gordon and wife Lisa, Tim Gordon and wife Gail, Brian Hand and wife Sylvia, Rusty Whitten and wife Melissa, JJ Jarrard, Nick Green and wife Tammy, Glen Ferrell, and Ray Tate and wife Kathy, Willard Hancock, and Wally Hancock; cousins, Mike, Kirstie, and Caitlyn Bradley, Blaine Green, Jacob Starr, Adam Lane and wife Savannah, Jessie Harper, Billy Todd Harper, Wesley Bass, Brittani, Gage and Trisha Gordon, Michelle McRae, Eric Winkler, Vince Cunningham, Brian, Justin, and Shelby Tate, JP Jarrard, Jake Ferrell, Zane Ferrell and lots of other family and friends dear to his heart.


            Special recognition to close family friend Amanda Cureton and special friend Ashley Fostier.


            Pallbearers will be Mike Bradley, Joe Jackson, Kam McClenney, Keith McCory, Rick Appling, and J.C. Flowers.
