Hazel S. Roney of Samson, AL passed away on February 24, 2017. She was 92.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 28, 2017, in the chapel of Pittman Funeral Home in Geneva, AL with Reverend Elbert Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Pittman Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 579 N County Rd. 19, Samson, AL 36477.

Mrs. Roney was born in Samson on September 13, 1924, to the late General Lee Sunday and Dollie Green Sunday. She was a longtime member of New Prospect Baptist Church. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Roney was employed by Phillips-Van Heusen for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred H. Roney; sister, Rushia Sundy; step-brother, Donald B. Sunday; and step-sisters, Jewell Howell and Eloise Pease.

She is survived by her step-son, Fred A. Roney (Jane) of Griffin, GA; step-daughter, Patricia Peterson (Pete) of Carriere, MS; five step-grandchildren: Brennan Roney (Kristin) of Milner, GA, Marlo Dykes (James) of Rock Hill, SC, Cheston Roney (Brandi) of Marietta, GA, Sharon Drake (Web) of Milan, TN and Stephanie Gathright (Todd) of Keller, TX; and six step-great-grandchildren, Cooper Roney, Lauren and Jon David Drake, Emily, Ben and Abby Gathright.
