KINSEY…Henry D. Martin, a resident of Kinsey, died Thursday afternoon, November 12, 2015, at his home. He was 89.


            Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 16, 2015, in the Kinsey Baptist Church with Reverend Brad Hardy officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory. Holman-Headland Mortuary & Cremations is in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. Monday in the church sanctuary.


            Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Kinsey Baptist Church “Bus Fund”, 6745 Walden Drive, Kinsey, Alabama 36303.


            Mr. Martin was born and reared in Houston County, son of the late Aaron Benjamin Martin, Sr. and Willie Mae Martin. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era.  Mr. Martin lived in Kinsey most of his lifetime where he was engaged in farming. He was also retired from Railway Express Agency as a truck driver. Mr. Martin was an active member of the Kinsey Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Teacher, and formerly sang in the choir. He served on the Kinsey Town Council from 1960 until 1996 and was a charter member of the Kinsey Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by two sisters, Arlene Martin and Willie Bell Merritt, four brothers, Alvin Martin, Alto Martin, Foy Martin and Reverend A.B. Martin, Jr.


            Surviving relatives include his wife of seventy years, Gwendolyn Jarvis Martin, a daughter, Anita Betsill, both of Kinsey; two grandchildren, James Betsill (Connie) and Chris Betsill (Kelley); two great-grandchildren, Liam Betsill and Ashlyn Betsill; a special friend who was like a son, Charles Douglas; sisters-in-law, Mildred Martin and Lucy Martin; several nieces and nephews.


            Serving as active pallbearers will be Charles Reneau, Charles Douglas, Woody Peters, Daniel Rich, Joe Watson and Jeff Arnold. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be members of the Kinsey Volunteer Fire Department, Kinsey Mayor and members of the Town Council, the Deacons of the Kinsey Baptist Church, and the B & L Jarvis Sunday School Class.


            The family would like to express their appreciation to caregivers, Sandi Willis and Danny Moore for loving care and kindness shown to Mr. Martin during his illness.
