Henry Irvin Pipkins of Ariton passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was 83.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Thursday, June 20, 2013, from Rocky Head Baptist Church, with Reverend Bill Weed and Reverend Joe Underwood officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery under the direction of Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday from 6-8 pm.


Henry Irvin Pipkins was born in Dale County, Alabama, on January 25, 1930.  He graduated from Ariton High School in 1949.  Irvin married Lurene Davis on June 21, 1951.  He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  After receiving his A&P license, Irvin worked at Fort Rucker as an Aircraft Inspector for 38 years, retiring in 1995.  He was a lifelong member of Rocky Head Baptist Church and served as a deacon for 56 years.


Irvin was preceded in death by his parents, Lera Baker Pipkins and George Henry Pipkins, and a sister Mavis Pipkins Rike.  


He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lurene Pipkins; daughter, Lynn Andrews (Mike) of Ozark; sons, Danny Pipkins (Martha) and Sammy Pipkins (Cathy) of Pensacola; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
