Mr. Hilton Howell Register, Jr., age 68, a resident of Dothan, died Sunday June 5, 2016, in Dothan after an extended illness.


Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday June 12, 2016 at the Selma Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend William Mike Burch officiating and Kendall Glover directing.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wiregrass Humane Society, 255 Jerry Drive, Dothan, AL. 36303. 


Howell was born in Dothan on October 31, 1947. He was the son of Hilton Howell Register, Sr. and Rubye Bell Bass Register.  He was a 1966 graduate of Rehobeth High School; attended Wallace College, Troy State, University of Alabama, and Auburn University.  Howell received a Degree in Social Science and Adult Education and completed a portion of Law School.  Howell retired from the Houston County School system after 35 years of service. He was a lifelong member of the Taylor United Methodist Church where he played the Piano for over 60 years.  Howell served as President of the Houston County Democratic Party for 7 years; Chairperson of Uniserve District 26 of AEA for 5 years; served in all offices of the Houston County Education Association; Board member of the Newspaper for the State of Alabama for 13 years. 


He was preceded in death by his parents. 


Survivors include several cousins, numerous friends and three special dogs (Rosco P. Coletrain, Barney P. Fyffe and Dukes of Hazzard). 


Glover Funeral Home of Dothan has been entrusted with the arrangements.
