Hortie Mae Jones

 Hortie Mae Jones, a resident of Cowarts, died Friday, May 30, 2014 at Hartford Healthcare. She was 95.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 at Cowarts Baptist Church with Rev. Coley Holloway officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery (Faydette) with Rev. Tony Deese and Dr. Kevin Freeman officiating and Byrd Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 3-5 Sunday.

Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Cowarts Baptist Church “Building Fund”, 2855 Jordan Ave., Cowarts, AL, 36321.

Mrs. Jones was born January 23, 1919 in Geneva County and lived there until 1950 when she moved to Cowarts. She was a foster grandmother at Ashford Elementary School for several years. She especially enjoyed the many years of faithful service at Cowarts Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for approximately 50 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband, T. J. Jones, a daughter, Esther Quam, a son-in-law, Walter Quam, a daughter-in-law, Annette Jones, six brothers and sisters.

Survivors include a son, Billy Jones of Cowarts; six grandchildren, Lori Adkison, Laronda Still, Kristy Atterberry, Genia Jones, Gaylord Quam and Paul Ivey; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
